Dr. Darin Collins from the Woodland Park Zoological Society (WPZS) in Seattle, Washington, USA, has joined the GAINS initiative and will be working with GAINS collaborators in S.E. Asia. GAINS and WPZS developed this arrangement whereby Dr. Collins will seconded to GAINS for the next 18 months. Initially, he will be based in Bogor, Indonesia. Dr. Collins has been active for many years in the region and has many friends and professional colleagues in the region. Dr. Collins is the Director of the Animal Health Department at Woodland Park Zoo. Dr. Collins became the associate veterinarian at Woodland Park Zoo in 1991 and director of the Animal Health Department in 2003. He is the principal lead for the WPZ Indonesian Veterinary Training Program. Dr. Collins received his Bachelor of Science in biological sciences and chemistry from Illinois State University in 1983 and graduated from the University of Illinois as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Over the years in Washington, he has provided services as field veterinarian to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. He also serves as adjunct faculty to the Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine and an advisor to the Seattle-King County Department of Public Health.
